Google searches for ‘sell my house’ hit highest rate in US internet history

STATEN ISLAND, NY — As housing and mortgage rates continue increasing and real estate continues as “a seller’s market,” more Americans are looking to sell their homes.

In fact, Google searches in the US for “sell my house” skyrocketed 147% in July 2022, which is the highest level in American history, according to luxury real estate website RubyHome’s analysis of Google Trends data.

The median national home price for active listings reached an all time high of $450,000 in June this year, according to Realtor.com.

The top 10 states in which people are searching to sell their homes reflect a range of people across the country. The top 10 include:

  1. Mississippi
  2. Connecticut
  3. Virginia
  4. Wyoming
  5. Florida
  6. Iowa
  7. New Mexico
  8. North Carolina
  9. New York
  10. Kentucky

A spokesperson for RubyHome commented on the company’s findings.

“With the rate of inflation skyrocketing in recent years, the value of a house has increased massively, meaning homeowners and sellers are in a prime position to reap the benefits, especially with any money left over from selling a property being able to help towards the growing costs of everyday items,” they said.

“With Zillow’s report that the average house price in America has risen 20.7% from last year, it is clear to see why Americans are tempted to sell at this time. However, with affordable housing becoming challenging to come across throughout America, it will be interesting to see if these figures translate into actual sales and what this may mean for housing market,” the spokesperson added.
